Nobody likes a stomach bug, and if you’re visiting St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, you should keep your eyes peeled for symptoms.
According to a release from Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance on Thursday (June 29), the hospital has declared a gastrointestinal outbreak on its Inpatient Unit.
The hospital is urging everyone to prioritize hand hygiene to prevent the spread of the infection. Gastro, or stomach flu, causes symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
To contain the outbreak, visitors are required to follow posted instructions, limit interaction to one patient per visit, wear gloves and gowns when visiting infected patients, and sanitize hands before leaving patient rooms.
“We are working with the Huron Perth Public Health to take all possible steps to stop the transmission of the virus, prevent any further infection, maintain bed availability and provide the best care to our patients,” says Erica Jensen, Manager Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Control.
Patients with symptoms are being isolated, and common areas have restricted access.
If you’re feeling unwell, HPHA requests that you stay home at this time, and not visit the hospital.
