Recent attendance at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in London August 20-23 had South Huron representing a myriad of interests.
Mayor of South Huron George Finch said that the opportunity to sit down with Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Dawn Gallagher Murphy yielded fruitful conversation about healthcare in South Huron – with the South Huron Hospital being a regional support,
He said that housing was a hot topic at the conference,
Homelessness was also an issue for many municipalities – and one that Mayor Finch feels we are setting an example in.
Delegates from South Huron also met with the Solicitor General about fire services, advocating for increased funding to provide training for volunteers. Mayor Finch said that he will always advocate for more funding to those services,
With regards to so many municipal leaders being gathered in a single place, Mayor Finch said that a lot of the great information that’s traded back and forth is done in the hallway between sessions – learning from the experiences of others in leadership across the province.
