Concerns over the lack of childcare in Bluewater area took center stage at a council meeting on Tuesday.
Community members voiced their concerns in a letter to council about the need for children’s programs, childcare facilities, and parental support in the area.
Councillor Whetstone pointed out the quickly vanishing options for parents in the area,
The closure of several childcare facilities, and long waiting lists at other daycare centers, has put many parents in a difficult position. Some are even contemplating quitting their jobs or reducing their work hours to accommodate their children’s schedules.
According to Councillor Whetstone, lack of options have put parents in an impossible position,
Councillor Whetstone pointed out the committee’s focus on finding solutions for local parents and emphasized the importance of conducting studies to determine where the greatest impact can be made, if council decides to intervene in any way.
Mayor Klopp, who is familiar with the challenges of his daughter in finding childcare for his grandchildren, stressed the need for accurate information address the issue effectively.
The council unanimously supported a motion to direct staff to compile data on the availability of daycare in Bluewater.

This report is expected to shed light on the current state of childcare in the municipality and help guide future actions – it’s expected to be presented at the next council meeting scheduled for September 18th.
