The Huron County Community Safety and Well Being Plan Oversight Committee’s considerations were presented to South Huron Council on Monday (October 2).
While there were several initiatives that the committee laid out that were of value like educating visitors on sharing the road with horse and buggies, identifying underserviced areas for unsheltered people, and a lack of equity and diversity training across the board – Councillor Neeb was quick to point out that many of the initiatives were reactive instead of proactive.
Deputy Mayor Dietrich as well as CAO Msuya-Collison (who attended the meeting) assured Councilor Neeb that the meeting was largely preliminary and encompassed many county projects, and that in the future, they will look to the ongoing conversation that the committee will generate. There is also a more local committee that deals with community safety in South Huron specifically.
Councillor Neeb also acknowledged the scale of many of the initiatives and asked how they would likely proceed with financing them.
CAO Msuya-Collison said that the collaborative nature of the committee will likely guide those directions in the future.
Time will tell what the impact of the committee will be on a municipal level.
