St. Boniface School in Zurich opened its doors to the community on Thursday morning – the official unveiling of the “Father Matt Memorial Garden” and a brand-new playground.
Father Matthew George, a beloved pastor at St. Boniface Parish, passed away in a car accident in 2021, following a long battle against cancer.
Principal Lori-Lynn Stapleton spoke to honor Father Matt’s legacy. She praised his unwavering commitment to the community and his passionate dedication as a pastor.
The memorial garden holds a special significance, featuring a large and prominent cross that belonged to Father Matt. It’s a touching reminder of his presence and the indelible mark he left on the community.
Among those in attendance was Father Matt’s brother, Patrick George, who expressed his deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and the recognition of his brother’s enduring influence.
The memorial garden opening also drew a crowd of community members and parishioners, including current Pastor, Father Tony Laforet, a representative for MPP Ben Lobb, and Councilor Winona Bailey.
