As the winter chill descends, residents and visitors alike can look forward to an array of exciting winter activities to keep them active and engaged.
Whether you’re a fan of gliding gracefully on ice or prefer a fast-paced game of shinny, South Huron has something for everyone.
Shinny and Ticket Ice:
If you’re an avid hockey enthusiast, the SHRC offers opportunities for shinny – complete with helmets, sticks, and pucks. Additionally, they have ticket ice sessions, ideal for figure skaters. These activities are available from early morning until 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. A nominal cost of $8.00 per person per hour ensures your spot on the ice – all participants must sign in and pay before hitting the rink.
Public Skating:
For those who just want to enjoy the ice without sticks or pucks, the South Huron Recreation Centre (SHRC) and Stephen Arena offer public skating sessions. The SHRC hosts sessions on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., while Stephen Arena provides ice time on Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. The best part? There’s no cost or pre-registration required, making it a fantastic family-friendly option.
Pickleball:
For those seeking indoor sports, South Huron runs pickleball sessions at the South Huron Rec Centre Hall from Monday to Thursday. Morning sessions run from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You can also enjoy evening sessions or opt for private rentals. The cost is just $2.00 per session, with rackets available to borrow, making it accessible to all skill levels.
Carpet Bowling:
Friday mornings are the perfect time for a friendly game of carpet bowling at South Huron Rec Centre Hall. For just $2.00 per session, you can enjoy this fun and social indoor activity.
Urban Walking Poles:
If you prefer to stay active in a different way, you can borrow urban walking poles from the South Huron Rec Centre during regular business hours. This is an excellent way to explore the scenic beauty of South Huron while staying fit, and it’s completely free.
With this fantastic lineup of winter activities, there’s no excuse to hibernate this season. Head over to the South Huron Recreation Centre and Stephen Arena and embrace the winter wonderland in the Municipality of South Huron. Enjoy the ice, stay active, and make the most of the season!
