Bluewater Council paid tribute to the unwavering dedication of several of the municipality’s firefighters at their meeting on Monday (February 5th).
These brave individuals were lauded for their remarkable commitment to safeguarding the Bluewater community through years of service in the field of fire services.
Bluewater Council took a moment to express profound appreciation not only to the firefighters but also to their families, recognizing the sacrifices made and the unwavering support provided throughout their service.
The recipients were:
– Firefighter Gerard Boon, with an astounding 45 years of service at Brucefield Station
– Captain Ron Thompson, who has dedicated 40 years of his life to Brucefield Station
– Firefighter Greg Campbell, also serving 40 years at Hensall Station
– Deputy District Chief Brian Cooper, with an impressive tenure of 30 years at Hensall Station
– District Chief Jeff Denys, honored for his 20 years of service at Brucefield Station
– Retired Captain Pete Bedard, recognized for his 20 years of dedication at Hensall Station
The ceremony, filled with gratitude and respect, saw the presentation of prestigious awards recognizing the long-standing contributions of these heroes. Among the honors bestowed were the Provincial Fire Services long service medal and service bars, reserved for Ontario firefighters who have dedicated a minimum of 25 years to various essential aspects of fire services, including suppression, training, public education, inspections, and communications.
Furthermore, federal recognition in the form of the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal was awarded to firefighters who have served for 20 years in Canadian fire services, with at least a decade spent in roles involving potential risk.
