As Lambton County prepares to mark its 175th anniversary, they’re looking to mark the occasion with their upcoming Heritage Champions Awards, an initiative aimed at honoring individuals and groups who have dedicated themselves to preserving the rich heritage of the region.
Established in 1849, Lambton County holds a deep-rooted history that spans generations. With the Heritage Champions Awards, the county seeks to shine a spotlight on volunteers and individuals who have tirelessly documented and celebrated Lambton County’s heritage within their communities.
That was Andrew Meyer, General Manager of the Cultural Services Division for the County of Lambton – he says that the upcoming 175th anniversary of the county is the perfect time to recognize the contributions of these individuals.

When asked about the criteria for evaluating nominations, Meyer said everything from contributions to built heritage, such as architectural restoration, to involvement in organizations dedicated to preserving heritage would be valuable additions to their considerations.
Looking ahead, Meyer expresses hope that the Heritage Champions Awards hopes not only to commemorate the county’s anniversary but also inspire future generations to continue the legacy of preservation.
If you ask Meyer, a Heritage Champion might be in your own back yard!
Heritage Champions will be recognized during a special ceremony at the June session of Lambton County Council, kicking off the 175th year.
Nominations are open until Friday, March 15 – visit lambtonmuseums.ca/heritagechampion to submit nominations and celebrate the unsung heroes preserving Lambton County’s rich history.
