Bigger and better stop signs might be coming to a road near you.
That’s due to a call for action to enhance signage and reduce accidents during Huron County Council’s meeting last Wednesday (March 6).
Mayor of South Huron George Finch initiated the conversation by highlighting the positive impact of previous signage improvements.
Building on this success, Mayor Finch proposed a policy to upgrade existing stop signs to four-foot size signs, along with advanced warning signs and increased reflectivity on posts, aiming to further enhance road safety.
Director of Public Works Imran Khalid acknowledged the importance of addressing potential discrepancies in signage sizes between county roads and local roads, and offered to bring forward a detailed report with recommendations to address this issue.
Deputy Mayor John Becker of Bluewater echoed Mayor Finch’s concerns, citing a recent accident at the intersection of Babylon and Crediton Road which emphasized the need for improved signage to prevent further tragedies.
Council approved a staff report to explore the implementation of enhanced signage measures at intersections across the county.
