The 2024 Ontario Budget was announced by the Province on Tuesday afternoon and new money in the budget includes an additional two-billion dollars over three years for home and community care, a 200-million-dollar community sport and recreation infrastructure fund, and more money for autism therapies.
myFM caught up with Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson who told us her thoughts on the budget announcement.
The Budget 2024 focuses on important local needs like building more community facilities and introduced the Community Sport and Infrastructure Fund. This fund will assist communities, including those in Huron – Bruce, in developing new and improving existing sports and recreation facilities.
It aims to promote the health and happiness of children, families, and seniors throughout Ontario.
Another key point from the budget announcement is $1 billion will be allocated to the new Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program and increasing the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund fourfold. This funding aims to assist municipalities in repairing and expanding essential infrastructure necessary to achieve their housing goals.
Healthcare was another focal point of the 2024 Budget and Minister Thompson also took the time to touch on the subject as the Ontario government says it is investing two-billion dollars over three years in home care services, nearly one-billion more for hospitals and hundreds of millions to expand primary care coverage.
