Next month, North Huron will see a significant military presence as the Canadian Armed Forces conduct a training exercise.
Scheduled from May 3 to 5, personnel and equipment will start arriving in late April.
Blyth will serve as the headquarters, utilizing the local community center, campground, and ball diamonds. The Wescast Community Complex in Wingham will also be used. Other communities in Huron and Bruce Counties will participate as well.
Town staff estimate the exercise will generate approximately $16,300 in rental fees, not previously budgeted for in 2024.
Residents are advised to watch for radio and social media announcements for event details and exercise updates.
During a recent council meeting, North Huron Deputy Reeve Kevin Falconer expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the military regarding the exercise.
CAO Dwayne Evans sees the exercise as an opportunity to meet training requirements in a different setting and learn valuable lessons for the Emergency Management Control Group.
