A quilt show is on this weekend in Exeter, where around 140 quilts will be shown.
“A Labour of Love,” is on at the Exeter United Church, with money raised from the show going towards making the church’s washrooms accessible.
The idea for the fundraiser came from local quilter Diane Carson, also known as “the Electric Quilter,” who heard about the church’s need for renovations.
Carson, along with her quilting partner Anne Beaudoin, will showcase their quilts, alongside other area quilters.
Carson didn’t always quilt, but instead began quilting 25 years ago after a major change in her life. Since then she’s won awards for her work across North America.
Not only has she won numerous awards for her work, but she also has the honour of becoming one of the first of a specific type of quilter in Ontario.
The show will feature various types of quilts, including traditional and modern styles. Alongside the quilt display, there will be a tea room, vendors, door prizes, and demonstrations by Beaudoin.
The event is organized by a committee from the church, with Carson’s friends also pitching in to help.
Carson says she can’t wait to see the show come to life and hopes everyone will come out and enjoy all they have to offer.
Admission is $10, and the show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 20, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 19.
