In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Airforce, a piece of local history will once again be taking to the skies – the Lancaster Plane.
According to Legion President Randy Carroll the plane has a history in the community.
Thirteen years later it was purchased by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton and moved for restoration.
In 1988 it made it’s first flight, and to date is one of only two remaining in service that are capable of flying.
The Lancaster bomber was known for it’s role in World War II, where 3736 of the 7377 aircraft were lost throughout the war.
If you want to catch a glimpse of this piece of living history, the plane’s return to Goderich is open to all – it’s coming up at 10am on Friday June 14th. Accompanied by a full colour guard, local dignitaries, and a barbeque, observers will not only be able to welcome the plane, but also be able to explore it’s interior, with tours taking place from 11am – 4pm.
That evening, the legion will celebrate with dinner and entertainment, and on Saturday, four lucky individuals are going up on a flight, to see the town of Goderich from the sky.
They’re presently anticipating thousands of people will turn out to welcome the Lancaster back to Goderich once more, don’t miss out on this chance to see a piece of history.
