A consultants recent report about the lack of accessibility of the playground in Dashwood, will likely see the structure located in an entirely new part of the community complex.
That’s according to a report to South Huron Council on Monday (June 3).
The current location of the play structure in Dashwood is across a creek, requiring the crossing of an inaccessible bridge – with high costs projected in constructing a safe, and accessible crossing. Councillor Marissa Vaughan said that an accessibility consultant was explicit – the current location was not conducive to accessible play.
Initially the report presented to South Huron Council identified an area next to the existing pavilion as a possible alternate location, which is accessible from the parking lot. However, recent information has made that location less viable.
Councillor Ted Oke proposed an alternative location for the playground, but after several years of skirting the project, with ballooning costs, and contributions required by both South Huron and Bluewater, Councillor Vaughan was eager to see the project progress.
The decision is once again up in the air, with staff asked by council to proceed gathering information about utility locations in the identified area, to present a report back to council in the future.
