Last Thursday, (May 30th), Community Living South Huron held a celebration at Bad Apple outside St. Joseph’s, in honor of Community Living Month.
Katie Fox, the Executive Director of Community Living South Huron, says that the event brought together service users, staff, and community members to enjoy a day filled with camaraderie, games, and refreshments.
Ryan Jewitt, a participant in Community Living South Huron’s programs, shared how the organization has enriched his life. Jewitt, who works at the Seaforth Library through the Community Participations Program, spoke passionately about his involvement in various activities. He highlighted his participation in the torch run for the Special Olympics and his love for working on the computer and wearing fun socks in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day.
She emphasized the importance of fostering a sense of community among those receiving support, noting that everyone has unique gifts and talents that enrich the broader community.
Fox also highlighted the theme of this year’s Community Living Month, “Authentic Inclusion,” which underscores the organization’s commitment to ensuring that everyone has a place to contribute and belong.
She expressed hope that the community at large would recognize and celebrate the efforts of the direct support staff, administration, and board members who support around a hundred individuals in the South Huron area.
Looking ahead, Community Living South Huron is preparing for their annual golf tournament on June 21st in Seaforth.
