Local residents should prepare for continued hot and humid weather through Sunday (June 23), as an Extended Heat Warning has been issued for Lambton, Middlesex, Huron and Perth Counties.
Extended Heat Warnings come into effect when a heat advisory extends beyond two days, a period during which vulnerable populations are particularly at risk. These groups include:
- older adults
- young children
- individuals with chronic illnesses
- pregnant people
- outdoor workers
- those who are underhoused or experiencing homelessness
High temperatures and humidity can impair the body’s ability to cool itself, potentially leading to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Lambton Public Health advises taking the following precautions to protect yourself and those around you:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of cool fluids, particularly water.
- Plan Activities Wisely: Reschedule or arrange outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day.
- Dress Appropriately: Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made from breathable fabrics.
- Seek Cool Environments: Take breaks in cool places such as community centres, shopping malls, or public libraries.
- Check on Others: Regularly check in on neighbours, friends, and older family members, especially those who live alone.

Noah’s Ark in Exeter, as well as the Zurich and Hensall Arenas have also opened their doors if you’re looking for somewhere to keep cool.
