International students are set to arrive in Exeter this August, to attend school this September, but they need your help first. The MLI Homestay program is urgently seeking host families for students coming to study at South Huron District High School under the Avon Maitland District School Board.
Manager of Student Care – East, Mary Voulgaris explains the program.
Two students from Japan still need homes. Hosting a student provides a unique opportunity to share your culture and hospitality while helping these students have the best possible experience in Canada. Students will be arriving in early September and will be staying until either November 2024 or June 2025.
Families often have life-changing experiences right in their own backyard. It’s a remarkable journey for the students and equally rewarding for our hosts.
Host families receive 24/7 support and are compensated to help offset expenses. This compensation is tax-free. However for families looking to take in a student, bedroom areas must follow certain criteria.
Voulgaris says this program has been going on for sometime now, and would like to see it continue for many years to come.
If you can open your home to an international student, please consider becoming a host. Your kindness will help make their study experience in Canada unforgettable.
If you are planning on becoming a host family, but live outside of Exeter, Voulgaris says they are looking for families from all over.
