Huron East Council has approved the sale of the Huron East Health Centre to a local family doctor in a move aimed at supporting community health care and addressing financial challenges.
“This is an opportunity for someone aware of a family health care practice’s needs to better serve the occupants of the Huron East Health Centre and the Family Health Team,” said Mayor Bernie MacLellan.
MacLellan noted the ongoing financial struggles of the Family Health Team due to limits on provincial funding. He said the sale ensures these challenges are addressed without impacting municipal taxpayers.
Constructed in 2008, the health centre has operated without financial strain on the municipality, though future cost concerns had emerged.
“Our initial goal when we constructed the building was to ensure access to reliable health care services for residents,” said MacLellan. “We are confident this transaction will sustain these essential services in our community.”
Council emphasized the decision will not affect the services provided by the Family Health Team or the health centre’s operations.
